Okay, this book review is going to be short and sweet. It’s
mainly because it wasn’t my cup of tea...at all. Speaking of tea, I really want
one!
The story opens with the diary of the time travelling
teenager, Jackson Meyer. Jackson has the dream life, he’s rich, he’s
intelligent, he has a gorgeous loving girlfriend and of course, he travels
through time. However, he can’t travel very far from his normal life span, so
nothing too far back in the past or even in the future.
After two random men appear out of nowhere, wanting to take
Jackson, his girlfriend receives a fatal gunshot wound. Rather than watch her
die, Jackson travels back in time to try to fix what has happened and save
Holly. Nevertheless, he soon finds himself two years in the past and not being
able to jump back to his real timeline in 2009. In the process of trying to change
the timeline he discovers that his whole life was built on a construction of lies.
The character Jackson was just like any typical teenage boy.
However, I found him to be awfully dull and soppy. I understand that he loves
his girlfriend a lot and would do anything for her, but there were times when
he acted like the clingy boyfriend. In terms of being dull, there wasn’t
anything exciting about him and it seemed like Julie just wrote things such as
being disobedient to his dad, to portrayed Jackson as a reckless and
interesting character.
On the whole, I was disappointed with Tempest. The introduction of the
EOTs (Enemies of Time) as the antagonists was weak as was the explanation for
time travelling. The story lacked any consistency and it seemed to be all
jumbled up together. Julie seemed to be adding a lot of details in a small
space.
